Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of THEA 2822.03: Dance and Movement 2b, from January 1 to April 30, 2027 (Winter Term). This course is a requirement for students enrolled in the Honours BA in Theatre (Acting Program) and is a practical, physical, studio exploration into movement and dance techniques. Emphasis is on time, space, energy, correct body alignment, and safe practices, with attention to developing personal expression through the mediums of movement and dance, as well as practical skills in preparation for a career in professional theatre.
The instructor is required to provide a Method of Assessment in consultation with full-time Acting Program faculty. Additionally, the instructor is required to prepare and grade all assignments and calculate final marks in time for student interviews at the end of each term. Final marks must then be submitted online.
This instructor works in collaboration with full-time Acting Program faculty and reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
A Bachelor of Arts or equivalent degree is preferred, but a candidate with considerable experience, skills, and knowledge will be considered. In addition, the following qualifications are required for this position:
- substantial experience and specialization in a form of movement considered valuable for actors (especially movement for the stage)
- ability to instruct students with diverse dance-training backgrounds, new movers, and broad levels of musicality, dexterity, and coordination;
- teaching experience at the post-secondary level
- evidence of strong teaching effectiveness.
Ability to deliver a variety of dance and movement disciplines (creative movement/ballet/jazz/historical dance/gesture work/text & movement, etc.) will be considered an asset.
