TRUCK DRIVER / LABOURER - SEASONAL

Six (6) Temporary, Full-time Seasonal Positions

The Township of Springwater, located in the heart of Simcoe County, is a mixed urban/rural municipality with growing urban settlements and a prosperous agricultural sector. The municipality is currently recruiting for six (6) existing temporary, full-time positions of Truck Driver / Labourer - Seasonal to work from mid-November 2026 to mid-April 2027.

Reporting directly to the Supervisor Roads, the positions will operate necessary public works equipment for the needs of the Roads and Fleet Department.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities of the position are:

  • Operate vehicles include pickups and heavy-duty trucks between 1,000 and 30,000 kg Gross Vehicle Registered Weight (GVRW) equipped with construction, snow and ice maintenance attachments, pre-wet tanks or attachment controls.
  • Operate front end farm tractor loaders, four-wheel drive articulating loaders or rubber tire backhoe loaders for the purpose of loading gravel, sand or stone materials onto trucks as operated.
  • Operate and maintain various hand power tools, chainsaws and woodchippers.
  • Operate industrial tractors and related attachments.
  • Operate pumps and devices required by the loading of water or salt brine materials for seasonal construction and maintenance.
  • Carry out manual labour including but not limited to, cold patching, tree and brush removal, sign installations, requiring articulate physical dexterity for construction and maintenance efforts of the department.
  • Maintain accurate timesheet, material haul records and hours of work logs in accordance with municipal policy and provincial legislation.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and equipment records.
  • Assist in ensuring departmental equipment is kept in good working order through regular inspection and maintenance programs. Ensures assigned vehicles are fueled and cleaned on daily basis.
  • Conduct vehicle inspection and maintain truck records as required by MTO audits and municipal policy.
  • Conduct pre-use inspection forms on vehicles and equipment as required by municipal health and safety policies.
  • Attend training courses and seminars as required.
  • Carry out such other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of Secondary School Diploma.
  • Minimum two (2) to five (5) years’ related experience and a demonstrated ability to successfully train in new duties.
  • A Valid Class DZ driver’s license in good standing with a satisfactory driving record is required. 
  • Ability to carry out manual labour requiring physical dexterity for construction and maintenance efforts of the department in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of manual and power equipment.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and safety procedures.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act, Minimum Maintenance Standards and Book 7 Traffic Control Setup.
  • Proficient with the use of computers including email, internet, work order and timekeeping software an asset.
  • Ability to work hours beyond the normal work week, including evenings and weekends and ability to work on a rotational basis or be on call.
  • As a condition of employment, the successful candidate(s) must submit a Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the Township.

RATE OF PAY

Compensation for this position is $29.25 per hour (2026 rate), plus statutory holidays, standby pay and vacation pay as per the Collective Agreement.  

HOURS OF WORK

From mid-November 2026 to mid-April 2027, the six (6) seasonal positions will work 40 hours per week; however, extended hours or additional hours on a call-in basis are required in inclement weather/road conditions. In addition, this position will be required to work early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, holidays or on a rotational basis and be on call in accordance with the Collective Agreement. The position will participate in a rotational schedule however the primarily working hours will be 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm Monday to Friday with the requirement for availability of on call on the weekends. Overtime is mandatory to address significant weather or infrastructure issues.
