Communications

As Communications Manager, you will be responsible for Microsoft image and brand through innovation; build trust and drive strategic agenda. Orchestrate execution to influence, including managing agency and stakeholder relationships. Demonstrate thought leadership, define storytelling and messaging aligned to brand and organization strategy; measure impact and adjust approach accordingly. Include executive communications materials and voice, crisis management, employee communications, and protecting the company from brand damage.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with story telling opportunities by using data and insights to support narratives. Collaborates across teams to develop stories in ways that generate positive perceptions towards Microsoft.
  • Recommends and develops collateral materials (e.g., decks, posts, talking points) for use in specific communications initiatives and events. Makes cause and effect connections to ensure content is consistent across the channels with which Microsoft is connected to a given audience.
  • Helps to identify opportunities to enhance reputation and perception and develops content accordingly, including correcting inaccuracies when they occur. Helps to identify potential reputation risk issues.
  • Assists in the preparation of materials for internal and external communications including briefing materials, scripting/messaging for internal keynotes, presentations, media engagements, social media, and events.
  • Assists in identifying and intentionally building productive working relationships with press and influencers, building trust and credibility in professional interactions, understanding editorial requirements of influencers, and identifying and building stories around key priorities. Identifies most appropriate influencers to pitch.
  • Collaborates internally with others to create communications and develop platforms to inform and facilitate employee communications across a specific organization or geography.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Available for an 8 month consecutive internship starting Aug 2023.
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field with at least one semester/quarter remaining after internship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong desire and business acumen and the ability to understand business needs
  • Ability to review/consume information and provide insights, hypothesis or conclusions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical and presentation skills 
  • Displays strong stakeholder and relationship management across senior leaders, partners and customers.
